Faith Healing Parents Assert Religious Rights ABC News: "A Clackamas County, Ore., couple accused of letting their infant daughter die by relying on prayer, rather than medicine, today asked that the charges be dropped, arguing that they infringe on their freedom of religion and their right to raise their children in their own way."

Your religion has jumped the shark when you allow your children to die by refusing them medical treatment. A parents' right to "raise their child" doesn't include a right to allow them to needlessly die. This is neglect, plain and simple. Thankfully, courts often get involved in these cases before anything bad happens, saving the lives of countless children who are being raised by what can only be described as religious fanatics. Sadly, these parents are often misled by their religious leaders, sincerely believing that by allowing their child to die, they are "obeying God" and proving their loyalty to him and the religion.

Let's review item #10 on this list of Dangerous Cult Warning Signs:

"The spiritual group teaches that giving up your life for the sake of the spiritual group may become necessary sometime in the future."

If you are a parent, might I have a word with you? Listen carefully: You are the only people on this planet entrusted with the care and protection of your children. Please take this responsibility seriously. Your neglect cannot be blamed on someone else. It's on your head.
