AMD Athlon XP 2500+ CPU: Great for Overclocking! I have had great success overclocking my AMD Athlon XP 2500+ CPU. Featuring the Barton core, the retail version of this CPU ships with an excellent heatsink. This standard heatsink has allowed me to safely overclock the CPU to the level of the 3200+ CPU. When gaming for extended periods of time, my CPU temp usually reaches about 151 degrees Fahrenheit. My motherboard is the FIC AU13. This board features the nVidia nForce2 chipset. The BIOS on this board has simple overclocking settings. The 2500+ CPU uses the 11x multiplier, so I simply adjusted the frontside bus to 200 MHz. As of August 2005, the AMD Athlon XP 2500+ CPU retails for about $100. The FIC AU13 motherboard is about $80. A gig of memory is less than $100. The screenshot below details the stats of my overclocked Athlon XP 2500+ CPU. Notice how it shows up as the 3200+ chip. ![]() |
