After suffering from canker sores for many years, I've found a treatment that helps to relieve the pain and discomfort. It's called MABEX. It requires a prescription from either my M.D. or Dentist. MABEX is a mixture of Maalox, Benadryl and Xylocaine 2% that the pharmacy mixes according to the details of the prescription. My current prescription calls for 1 oz. Benadryl, 2 oz. Maalox and 3 oz. Xylocaine 2%. I swish it around in my mouth for 60 seconds and then spit it out. It provides almost instantaneous relief, as it numbs the inside of my mouth. The relief lasts for almost an hour.

Doctors and scientists are not sure what causes them. No, there is no known cure. These two statements are hard to swallow, but I can assure you that they're true. I've been a canker sore sufferer for more than 20 years. I've been to at least nine doctors, none of which have been able to provide me with any miracle cure. After extensive Internet research and trying multiple home remedies, I've accepted canker sores as a way of life. Hence, my interest in pain relief.
