Question: Is sending $300 tax refund checks to taxpayers the same thing as buying votes in the next presidential election? I'm not sure, but it wouldn't surprise me if Dubya has a great big grin on his face right about now.

These are unrelated rants...Napster sold out! Netzero and Juno are merging! Timothy McVeigh tried to get a stay of execution after admitting that he was guilty! Faith Hill has another song on the pop chart. What the heck?

As most of you know, I lived in New York City for almost seven years. This week marks the six-month anniversary of my return to Mississippi. Let me point out some of the things that I miss and don't miss about NY. I don't miss: bums asking me for money four times a week, annoying people on the subway, walking to work in the rain, sub-zero windchill, lack of traffic rules/signs. I do miss: fresh (real) bagels, NY pizza (by the slice), sunbathing and rollerblading in Central Park, outdoor film festivals, Gorilla Rep, cool cafes and coffee houses, the Brooklyn Brewery and all my great friends.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair won a landslide victory this week in England. Take a look at the photo below and answer this question: Is it windy in London or does he use the same barber that Bill Gates uses? (Maybe it's just me, but does he sort of look like Kevin Costner on crack in this photo?)

Hairdo of a winner?

Wear your sunscreen, and have a good weekend!

OK. First, tennis. What's up with Pete Sampras? He lost at the French Open again. Some say that he is the greatest tennis player in the history of tennis. Nope. If you can't win the French Open (at least once) you cannot be considered the greatest tennis player in the history of tennis. Who do you think is the best tennis player of all time? Let me know what you think.

Has anyone used Napser Napster lately? As you know, they've implemented a series of filters to prevent users from downloading and sharing copyrighted music. Honestly, I went about six weeks without downloading a single song. Well, recently I wanted to peform a little "test" to see how well the filters work. (OK, maybe I was trying to download a song or two.) Anyway, with a little patience I was able to find exactly what I wanted. True, the number of files available has dropped drastically, and the glory days are over. But, with a little patience, you can still find what you're looking for. Of course, this should be done for "testing" purposes only.

Microsoft has launched their next Office suite. Great. Anybody got $400 I can borrow? One bright spot: FrontPage 2002 can publish to web servers that are not running FrontPage server extensions. Can't afford Office XP? Try Software602.com. They make a free software suite that will compose and edit Microsoft Office files. There's a bargain!

The Cowboy Junkies have just released a new album. I've only heard bits and pieces of it. However, I really enjoyed their 1988 album called The Trinity Session. Listen to this sample of a track from The Trinity Session named 'Blue Moon Revisited (Song For Elvis)'. It's a remake of Blue Moon. This is my favorite track on that album.

Is a squirrel just a rat with a tail? Read about an elderly lady who was attacked by a squirrel before you decide.

I've come to the realization that (almost) no one plays Monopoly by the rules. No big deal. As long as I get my $200 when passing go I won't complain too much. It's not like I'm good enough to play in the Monopoly Championship or something. I wonder if people laugh at you when you 'Go Directly to Jail' during the Monopoly World Championship.

See you next Friday! Take care!

Thank God it's Friday! Spring time is not a time to be inside! Relief is on the way. I'm going to a water park on Sunday!

Imagine my horror when I stepped onto an elevator earlier this week (on my way to lunch!) to discover a woman who was clearly in violation of the Summer Shoe Pledge. Get it together, people! We do not want to see dirty toenails! Save that for your family, lady. Thank-you, so much!

Have you thought about what this weekend is? Memorial Day Weekend. Doesn't ring a bell? No big deal for you? How about this...In 365 days I will be in a theater watching Star Wars Episode II! See what I mean? Giddy-Up! (Zeb - you're in charge of getting me some opening night Ziggy tickets. Thanks.)

Is anyone going to see Pearl Harbor this weekend? Please send me your personal review if you do.

Does anyone know the answer to this burning question? Why does Wal-Mart open only 3 of their 50 available checkout lanes? I can never get out of the place! To make matters worse, the Express Lane is not one of the three lanes they open! Can I get a witness?

At lunch today, I listened to a bluegrass band playing live in downtown Jackson at an open-air concert. I'm coming clean on this one. I love bluegrass music. No computers, no tricks, just good, old-fashioned accoustic fiddling and picking. Flatt & Scruggs were two of greatest musicians to ever step onto a stage. Just ask Walker. (Be careful. He might break into singing 'Salty Dog Blues' for you.)

If you haven't done so already, rent and watch Remember the Titans. I know what you're thinking. "The Broomeman doesn't watch Disney movies!" You're right, I don't. Relax, I'm not losing it. I watched it because Alford recommended it. Thanks, Al, you were right on cue as always. Check out this review if you're interested in seeing the movie.

Have a great weekend!
