A rare Saturday post...

Military Options in Afghanistan - Interesting little article with some projections.

America's War Plan, Part 5: Follow-On Theaters of Operation This article is interesting. It reminds readers that it took the U.S. six months to deploy troops for Desert Storm. It also points out how the U.S. has avoided responding to terrorism in multiple Islamic countries. It suggests that Iraq will be a target, but only later.

We rented and watched Spy Kids on DVD last night. We really enjoyed it. Simple, funny, clean and entertaining. Robert Rodriguez wrote and directed it, and he's already working on Part II. Bring it on!

We can safely say that Ebert hated Ben Stiller's new movie, Zoolander.

We're hoping to see Hearts in Atlantis today.

Jeremy Blonde suggested that I compile a list of the "Best Albums of 2001", based on reader's votes. I like the idea. Please send me your votes. I would like to post the results of your votes on my music page.

"Doctors share their horror and frustration from their experiences at Ground Zero, during the first and following days of the World Trade Center attack..."

America's War Plan, Part 4: The Intercontinental Theater

Citizen Kane is now available on DVD. This film is considered by many to be the greatest American film ever created. If you've never seen it, it's definitely worth a viewing. Here is Ebert's review.

A team at MIT in Boston say they have developed a way to record mouse movements on a page and learn how people behave when they are on the internet.

Bill Gates is still the richest man in America.

This made me laugh. You'll probably enjoy it too, if you've ever been bothered by a telemarketer at home.

The third part of Stratfor's article on America's war plan is here. I'm finding these articles quite eye-opening.

K-Meleon 0.5 has been released. You can download it here.

This brought a smile to my face.

"Cruising the boulevard may never be the same. Two of America's favorite sports cars are nearing the end of the blacktop." Remember the Iroc-Z? It was my favorite.

I paid $6 to be bored out of my mind by this.

My mother cooked a feast for us yesterday! It was delicious. Thank you.

If you're running anything other than Windows 2000 on your computer, you should seriously consider upgrading to Windows XP. It seems to me that the boys in Redmond have finally done their homework.

As I watched President Bush's speech last night, I felt like I was watching a serious piece of history. No doubt he felt as if the entire world was watching him.

I noticed that the major news sites on the web were performing poorly the day of the WTC/Pentagon attacks. This article details the unimpressive facts.

Check out these panoramic views of "ground zero". (You'll need QuickTime.)

Here's what "amused me" during lunch today: A meter maid placed a ticket on an SUV that was illegally parked in a handicapped spot. When the lady driving the SUV saw the ticket, she swore at the meter maid, grabbed the ticket and sped off. Please allow me to give this lady a nickel's worth of free advice: (1) people who park illegally get tickets and (2) swearing at cops will get you nowhere.

Here's my pet peeve for today: Remixes of songs that I like. Enough already! Does each and every song on the airwaves need a remix? It really annoys me when I think I'm listening to the original song, only to discover that it's a remix.

I'm not sure if this is funny or gross.

I want to share with you an excerpt from an email that I received from Vanessa this morning. She lives in Queens and works in Manhattan.

"...I can hardly believe it only happened a week ago. Everything before the attack feels like another lifetime. And that day, everything that happened, every person I met during the evacuation, every little detail is burned into my memory. The first few days I think I cried every minute of every day. I know it's being felt all over the country, but the reality is more palpable here. I can't explain the terror, what it felt like when we realized the attacks were deliberate and all of a sudden we were all sitting ducks, stuck 30 or 40 or 50 floors in the air waiting for a plane to come and hit us next. I really thought I might not get out of the city alive. We walked home over the 59th Street Bridge. The whole time I was on it I kept thinking a plane could hit us any second. Then we heard planes overhead, and at that point there was no commercial air traffic since all the flights had long been grounded. We were finally able to tear our eyes away from the sight of the giant column of smoke rising into the air where the Twin Towers had been to look up into the air to see what the noise was. It was two fighter planes, actual United States combat planes overhead. The whole experience was surreal. Everyone walked in a kind of stunned silence. It was eerily calm actually. No one was running or trampling or panicked. We were all just trying to get out of there alive and get home to our families, aware that it could have been any of us who went to work that day not knowing they'd never see their families again..."

You can read more eyewitness accounts of last week's tradgedy here.

Here's a story about an incident that happened just yesterday in Chicago. Read this an tell me how scared you think the pilots on that flight must have been.

CloneCD 3.0.9.1 has been released.

The Nimda virus is a real problem.

So far, I'm very impressed with Windows XP. It installed flawlessy and has been running great for about a week.

Can Windows 2000 be replaced with Linux? This guy thinks so.

The tragic events that occurred yesterday have left me with a sick feeling. I was glued to CNN and Brokaw last night. Having been to the World Trade Center personally, on many occasions, this has affectd me greatly. It just doesn't seem real. I can't stop thinking about the unfortunate people inside the hijacked planes, the people inside the buildings, and the many rescue workers, firefighters and police officers that lost their lives.

I have received numerous emails from friends in Brooklyn and Manhattan, and they are OK. I've spoken on the phone with two of my friends. They both witnessed the second plane collision, and they felt the explosion from over a mile away, across the East River.

kottke.org's post from yesterday has an extensive set of links regarding this tradgedy.

Finally saw "The Game". I really enjoyed this movie and I would like to see it again. I missed the first few minutes of it.

I reinstalled Windows ME and reinstalled IE 6. This time it worked. I also installed Windows 98 SE, making my system a triple-boot system. I hope to have Windows XP Professional installed by the end of the week.

Didn't get to see the Musketeer as planned. Perhaps we'll see it this coming weekend.

Misha and Derek are home from CA. We met up with them at Steve and Beth's place and played cards last night.

"Hurricane Erin drenched Bermuda and kept some tourists from heading home, but the island escaped major damage as the center of the storm passed far offshore..."

Where's my phone? No, seriously, where is my phone?

My weblogs list has been updated. Several of these sites can be quite entertaining.

Go here and read the reviews beneath the album and try not to laugh.

The Seinfeld Episode Guide. I really miss that show.

I saw the first hour of the
MTV Video Music Awards. This is one sad annual event. One of the few things that enjoyed seeing was Alicia Keys' performance of her new single, "Fallin'". Fortunately, I went to bed before this happened.

Courtney and I are going to see 'The Musketeer' tonight. Ebert says that there is a banquet scene that is a "marvel of art design". Hopefully, it won't bore me. This is, admittedly, not my type of movie.

I ran into serious bugs with IE 6.0 on my Windows ME system last night. All right-click options are disabled and downloads are not possible. Additionally, Windows Explorer is now behaving oddly. It still works fine on my Windows 2000 system, however.

My brother's site has a new look.

There is new commentary.

Pete Sampras beat Andre Agassi again! Sampras is the most boring tennis player I have ever seen. I was pulling for Agassi. It was quite a match. Tennis at its best.

It looks like M$ won't be breaking up. Big surprise. Did Uncle Sam 'cave in' to Uncle Bill? Dan Gilmore sees it that way.

Uncle Bill thinks that high-speed internet costs too much.

Is coffee good or bad for you? I sure do enjoy it.

What is your favorite crayon color?

Tired of Google? (Of course not!) Give WiseNut a try! Not bad.

Courtney begins working at Community Bank, in North Jackson, tomorrow. We're both excited about it.

What happened to summer?

Courtney and I watched Hitchcock's Psycho last night. Norman Bates gets my vote as "Creepiest Villan" any day. Perhaps he's not the scariest guy on film, but his nervous creepiness is still effective onscreen, even now. This movie was scarier the first time I saw it. When you already know the surprises, it doesn't quite give you the same jolt. Still, if you haven't seen it, be sure to check it out. It's on Ebert's list of "Great Movies".

DivX 4.01 has been released.

The SirCam worm is still wreaking havoc worldwide.

My sinuses are jacked up.

We've had a lot of enjoyable company this weekend. Kip and Angie stayed with us Friday night. Steve and Beth have been with us for the past two nights.

My favorite store in Northpark Mall is by far Williams-Sonoma. You must see this place! They have anything you could possibly need in your kitchen.

My PC is now a dual-boot machine with Windows 2000 and Windows ME. I hate ME. But, I want to play a few games that Windows 2000 does not support. Go figure.

It is cooling off a bit, here in MS. It has been a long, hot summer. Our landlord finally replaced our AC unit. It works really good.

Unfortunately, I've been too busy to write any new commentary. This week, however, I will not let you down.

I'm working on a page of weblog links. View it here.
